It has been a long summer. Truly! I am sure everyone must be waiting impatiently for the rains to come and put an end to this blistering heat! Summer also meant the onslaught of weddings and going to a ton of festivities of your near and dear ones. These celebrations mean bringing out the heavy and traditional attires from the back of your closet or raiding your mom’s wardrobe for sarees (guilty).
Today, more and more young women are turning to the saree to make a statement, largely because it has become more accessible to them and also, in part, because they see their fashion icons don the sarees in new and interesting ways. Be it colour, fabric or drape, the saree is showing up in our closets once again! Making a saree that appeals to people of all ages and suits the times has always been a goal of mine. Season after season, we try to reinvent this part of our rich heritage. This summer, we saw people embrace the saree once again.
Here are some of our tips on wearing the saree & check out how some of your favourite stars wear them!
1. The All-Rounder Blouse:
You need a basic blouse in your wardrobe, like a pink and a black, in a basic style, which will work throughout the year, in all weathers and so that most of your sarees pair well with it.
2. Lightweight Sarees:
It’s always a good idea to have a couple of pastel, lightweight sarees in your closet for a day-function where it might be too hot to wear a heavy saree. So a cotton or chanderi saree in a light colour is essential. It should also be comfortable enough for you to travel in, like Sonam Kapoor Ahuja’s airport look.
3. A Failsafe Blouse:
This is for women who are big-chested and don’t like showing their arms, this sports-bra inspired blouse with a shrug is another must-have. It’s a snug fit and you can always remove the blouse if the weather gets too hot. Another plus is that this is a great look for destination or beach weddings.
4. Basic Crop Top / Basic Shirt:
A quirky option to the traditional blouse, this can be worn with your saree as well to give it a more youthful look, as seen on Sonam in the Denim Saree.
5. Polo Neck:
For colder weather, you can pair your saree with a basic polo neck. You can even crop it if you wish or wear a polo neck bodysuit.
